  Description

  • The UNIX administrator's job is to thoroughly assess system security, stability and performance before installing new software on a production system, and to know enough about the software to be able to provide the required support for users who have problems.
  • The UNIX administrator is responsible for creating UNIX accounts required for each type of system tasks according to the organization standards and approved Security Matrix, insure that the system credentials matrix is updated and will provide maximum system security
  • Coordinate with the vendor any planned installation effectively and document , highlight the required downtime, or any functionality or performance impact  
  • The UNIX admin job is essentially meddling with things to make them work better (or work in the first place). Make sure documenting everything he does in case he has to do it again in the future or another administrator have to perform the same task.
  • Performing backup and restore periodic data and system backup and restore operations with standard logs and documentations OS backup
  • Responsible for ensuring that no unauthorized use of the system occurs. Usually this just involves staying abreast of security developments and carefully checking log files.
  • Keeps his fingers on the pulse of the system by watching disk, CPU, memory, and network usage. Noticing a problem in the early stages makes it easier to fix quickly.
  • In case of software and hardware on a system break, the UNIX Administrator needs to be able to quickly find the source of the problem and fix it. directly or by vendor support
  • System performance monitoring and tuning to insure that the overall system utilization is within the best recommended thresholds
  • Insure installed components versions and objects security level according to NBD standards
  • Responsible for studying new needs and requirements and then perform capacity planning for future needs
  • Participate in developing the BCP and DRP and performs required tests to achieve it

  Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree of Computer Science or any relevant major from a reputable university.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in the same role. 
  • Understanding of networking concepts, firewalls, ports, TCP, UDP, routing tables, subnets, VLANS
  • Understanding of SAN concepts (LUNS, hard and soft zoning, HBAs, WWNs)
  • Fluency in English is a must.
  • Excellent Communication Skills
